Sanatan Mandir did it again. In a span of less than 2 weeks Sanatan Mandir sponsored two Gujarati comedies silencing the Indian community in Atlanta Mandir who think Sanatan Mandir is only for religious people.
On Tuesday April 3rd Sanantan Mandir organized a splendid comedy “Tu Chhe Lajawab – You Are G-r-e-a-t” in which veteran actor of Gujarati Stage Sarita Joshi was the main character. Surprisingly, the hall was jam packed in spite of being a busy weekday.

Y K Entertainment, a premier national promoter, headed by Kamru Hamrani, has given Atlanta Gujarati community many top class Gujarati plays in last several years. It showcased three shows of most successful and internationally acclaimed “Pati thayo ae patee gayo” (One who becomes a husband is finished) in month of March. The latest show was organized by Shakti Mandir on Saturday March 31st.

Anwar Qadri, a well known writer-poet from New York was felicitated by Atlanta’s Urdu organization Bazm-e-Adab on March 16th at Hilton Hotel in Norcross, Georgia and was attended by over 150 members and lovers of literature, ghazals & shayari.
The program which lasted for about 4 hours was divided into two parts. The first part was to dedicate launching of Anwar’s two new books named Jumla-e-Mutareza (poetry) and Tar-e-Nafas (prose).

In old days all the Gujarati stage plays used to be full of crying and weeping because their stories were based on social theme of wrongdoing, mistreatment and injustice. Nowadays most of the Gujarati stage plays are comedies and are well received by the audience. Though their titles are hilarious, their stories still are social but with a twist. I have seen at least six Gujarati comedies in last six months with such stories. Siddharth Randeria is considered the king of the comedians among all Gujarati actors and his Gujjubhai series has been super hit in the USA.

Atlanta’s well known community member Aslam Pervez launched his dream production “Neelam Ghar” on Saturday March 10th at the Meadow Creek High School. This program was attended by well over 400 patrons. The show’s concept was based on a popular Pakistani TV quiz show, offering exciting prizes for the audience along with live music, Indo-Pak cultural dances and entertainment for all ages.
